TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Sequoyah Schools will once again hold summer classes as part of its Summer Learning Program.  Classes will be held July 5 through July 16, from 8:25 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., for any student in the fourth through 12th grades.  Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided.
“The Summer Learning Program gives students a chance to learn about things that they may not have a chance to get exposed to during the school year,” said Tera Shows, program coordinator.  “We will have a variety of activities for the students that range from Cherokee cultural activities to food and nutrition and physical education.”
Elementary age students (fourth through eighth grades) will receive the most variety in their schedule, and will participate in a variety of different activities.
“They will never do the same thing twice and they will never have a dull moment,” Shows said.
High school students will also have the option to earn high school credits in Algebra I and Algebra II, English III, and Driver’s Education.  Other courses may be added on an as-needed basis to help students earn extra high school credits or make up credit as needed.  Non-credit students will be able to choose from among ACT prep class, college prep class or freshman orientation (incoming Sequoyah freshman only).  Structured recreation time will be offered every day, and will include activities such as swimming, bowling and roller skating.
The Sequoyah Schools cafeteria will provide breakfast, lunch and a snack daily to participants.  There is no charge for participation and enrollment is open to any student in the fourth grade and up, but class size is limited so students are encouraged to enroll early.  The absolute deadline for enrollment is June 11.
For more information on Sequoyah Schools’ Summer Learning Program or to request an enrollment application, call Tera Shows at (918) 453-5542 or e-mail tshows@cherokee.org. The application may also be downloaded from the Sequoyah Schools Web site at http://sequoyah.cherokee.org
