Sequoyah Student Accepted to West Point/Air Force Summer Programs

Logan FrancisLogan Francis

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Sequoyah Schools junior Logan Francis has been accepted to the 34th Annual Summer Leaders Seminar at West Point, the United States Military Academy and at the United States Air Force Academy.  The summer seminars give the students a chance to see what the military academies are like and may help them earn acceptance to the academies later on.
“Getting accepted to these summer programs will help me make decisions about my future,” Francis said.  “I will have to decide something by the first semester of my senior year.”
Francis has several options to decide from.  Besides a possible acceptance to a military academy, he has also has interest in several colleges including the University of Arkansas.
“I would like to do that too,” Francis said.
Service in the military is a family affair for Francis.  His older brother, Dion III (Trey) earned an appointment to the West Point Military Academy in 2008 and his father, Dion II also served in the military.  Trey was the first Sequoyah Schools student ever to receive a military service academy appointment.  Since then, Sequoyah alum Shayne Boyd was appointed to the United States Air Force Academy and senior Lynsey Dry has been appointed to the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School.
While at the summer leadership seminars, Francis will participate in physical conditioning exercises and academic classes.  Should he receive a full appointment to an academy, he will receive four years of college education in return for five years of active duty military service and three years in reserve duty.
Logan, of Tahlequah, is the son of Dion II and Shannon Francis and is a citizen of the Caddo tribe and the Muscogee Creek Nation.
